It is common for one to have a psoriasis flare during the change in seasons from summer to fall and winter to spring. There is no doubt that the summer sun provides clearing benfits for those suffering from psoriasis.
The UVA and UVB rays aid in slowing the growth of the skin cells and in some minor cases the psoriasis may clear completely. The sun also causes your body to produce Vitamin D naturally which is good for psoriasis sufferer's and is better than a Vitamin D supplement.
The humidity is normally higher in the summertime which also is good for your skin.
So what do you do to keep clear during the transition time? You can replicate the sun environment! It's very easy to do and inexpensive.
What I recommend is you find a tanning center and tan 2 to 3 times a week. A full session lasts 10 - 20 minutes, depending on the bed and bulbs. The beds use a combination of UVA and UVB light. The tanning beds are safe to use and there are tight regulations here in the U.S. and Canada. I imagine in the U.K. and Australia too.
Here in the Austin, Texas area it costs $20 - $30 a month for unlimited tanning. Minimum of 24 hours between sessions. There are 4 tanning centers within a mile of my house and they are always running specials so shop around! If your dermatologist has a light bed he probably charges $20 - $30 per session and they do the same thing! Some people have got their insurance companies to pay for the tanning as they would rather pay $30 a month than $400.
Another benefit of using the tanning beds is that you can get the rays to areas that may need treatment that you can't publicly, such as your buttocks, breasts, or loin area.
